RESULTS OF Palo Alto June 7, 2008

Our May match was rained out, so we were due some nice weather for the June match, and we got it in spades.  The day was warm and the wind was constant and much appreciated, at least in the pits.  Thirty four shooters turned out for what turned out to be our largest match ever.  Most appreciated were the new shooters who tried their skills at six hundred yards for the first time.  Some struggled at first, then got the hang of it; and by days end were smiling ear to ear.  I'm sure many will return and challenge the plantation's winds at the next match.  We hope so, thanks for coming guys.

Nine competitors entered the Marksman class, which is the future growth of our sport.  George Fournet was top gun with a score of 549-7x, followed by Charles Freeman second, and Gerald Liuzza in third position.  In the Sharpshooter class Buck Kliebert shooting his new Palma rifle for the first time took top honors with a nice 574-19x.  Buck has been waiting a long time for that rifle, and I can tell you it was worth the wait.  Congratulations Buck!    The combined Expert and Master class was led by Rob Westfall with a score of 580-20x, followed by Joe Mistretta in second place.  Nice shooting Rob!  The High Master class had five entries, and first place was taken by Bob Jenkins with a score of 592-25x.  Gary Henry was Prone Match Winner with an awesome score of 597-29x.  Great shooting Gary.

The F-Classers were represented by eleven shooters, who pressed hard for points on the half size targets.  The F-TR class was won by Duane Landry, who was shooting his .308 Remington off a bi-pod.  Duane's score of 566-13x bested everyone in the TR class.  In the F-Open class Mark Miller took first place with 584-18x by Creedmoore count over Joey Clark who shot the identical score for second place.  Top honors and the F-Class Match Winner's spot was taken by Whitney Simoneaux with a fine score of 585-22x.  Very close competition indeed, with the top three shooters separated by a single point.  We need to point out some fine shooting by Scott Shultz also.  Scott shot his .308 in the Open class and was only down three points to the winners.  Great shooting guys!!

Our State Championship match will be held the first weekend of October (4th & 5th).  We will again provide food and door prizes to our competitors.  All competitors must be NRA members, so get your memberships in early.  The entry fee includes membership in the Louisiana Shooting Assoc.  This has been a very popular match and rest assured we are working to make it even better every year.  Special thanks to all of our match winners during the year who contribute their award monies to the door prize fund.  It is much appreciated by our shooters who receive the door prizes.  Last year we awarded over two thousand dollars in prizes.

Thanks to everyone for making our little match so nice. Next Match July 5th.  Hope to see you there in Red White and Blue!
